WHY USE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER? - By Michael Zervos (Director PhotoMounts & Albums The question proposed to me is a simple one, why choose a wedding photographer?

My first and instant reaction was to answer the question, with the standard issue answers - experience, equipment, products, quality and dedication but I didn’t. I took a deep breath, exhaled and asked myself another question instead. “Why wouldn’t you use a professional wedding photographer?”
I took a moment to openly analyse and thoroughly answer the question and the only answer I could come up with was, a financial one, money was the only reason I wouldn’t use a professional wedding photographer.

This couldn’t be the only reason so, I then asked five friends who are currently single, why wouldn’t you use a wedding photographer and strangely enough they all answered the same.  Money was the only reason why they wouldn’t use a wedding photographer no one gave any other reason  I then started to think back to the first question proposed to me “why use a professional wedding photographer?”

I then asked this question to another five friends this time all married and strangely enough all with kids. Out of these friends, two had a friend take the photos of their wedding day the remainder had their weddings shot by a professional. This time the answers did vary but the message given was without a shadow of a doubt the same.

While there are a number of benefits in using a wedding photographer on and before the day of a wedding, the single most significant element is in the capturing of a moment. Capturing the special moments in the day, was the underlying factor with all friends, even the two that had a friend shoot their wedding

Both friends wished after looking at the albums from the others they had spent more money on getting a professional photographer. I myself found that some of the most memorable images from their albums are the images of them and family members embracing each other just as they would if the photographer wasn’t there. Some images even depicted ones personality down to a tee.

So my answer to the question asked of me from the outset, why use a professional photographer?

“To have your cherished memories and unique moments truly captured forever”

A professional photographer’s work in truth is only appreciated years after the wedding day, as we look back on the images taken as memories. Like all memories we relate to moments and within a wedding day there are many moments that only a professional wedding photographer has the experience and aptitude to capture.

There is an art and skill in knowing when to capture that moment, where in a single snap shot you are able to read a story. The moments in our lives that create memories are the most valuable possessions we as humans have. The problem is our memories over time fade, just like our feelings. Photography enables us to relive in our minds those moments and revisit the emotions we felt then and feel now.
